After playing a group of little "surprise" shows at small venues in Los Angeles, it looks like the Breeders may be more or less "officially" back. Oh, I guess there have been the occasional on again / off again shows here and there since the mid-90s, with a constantly rotating cast of characters, but nothing really sustained. Sisters Kim and Kelley Deal comprise the core of the group, who did some nifty things with surf-y rhythms and grindy guitars, somewhat remeniscent of the Pixies, in which Kim was bassist. Anyhow, they're finally putting the finishing touches on a new album with Steve Albini in Chicago - you know, it's been an awfully long time since 1993's "Last Splash".
