HIM

I've tried for a very long time to like HIM, as it is basically the brainchild of one Mr. Doug Scharin, whom you may know as the rhythmically-diverse, talented drummer for the now-sadly-defunct June of 44. Try as I might, though, I never really found HIM's early works terribly appealing - something about the minimalist dub (think of a reggae beat and not much else) that just never really kept my attention. But lately Scharin has pulled in folks like Rob Mazurek (trumpet) and Jeff Parker (guitar) from the Isotope 217 / Tortoise crew and headed more in an interesting mutated jazzy direction (last year's "Sworn Eyes", for example). Their album "Our Point of Departure", featuring roughly 3/4 of June of 44 has been out for a while, but I've not heard it. And now they're going to release "New Features" in July. Gosh, I'm behind.
