Junior Brown

I tend to rail against the garbage spewed forth from the Nashville country machine, so I was a little surprised how much I enjoy Junior Brown's album 'Long Walk Back' which came out of Nashville, albeit on a small independent label. Of course, Mr. Brown does not appear to have the typical qualities which make a Commercially Successful Country Artist (TM), namely Large Breasts (R) or (insert your own male equivalent swoon-inducing feature here). Instead, he's got this thing called talent, picking some good twang and playing a mean lap steel on his custom-made double-necked split 6-string / steel guitar. And he's got this amazing deep voice that sounds like it's wandered every dusty trail Texas has to offer at least twice. If you're not familiar with his music, I'm sure you remember his memorable performance as "Farmer" in one X-Files episode (really). You know, the one about the people with the exploding eardrums. I hate it when that happens.
