LTJ Bukem

At one point, LTJ Bukem and I had a lot in common - we both wear glasses, we're both guys, and we both took piano lessons at a young age. However, that's where the similarity ends, as I suspect Mr. Bukem was actually musically competent, while I could barely tell the difference between my elbow and a hot rock as far as the piano was concerned, even after 12 years of lessons. Mr. Bukem has also gone on to become quite an accomplished DJ, and he's out spinning records along the lines of the Progression Sessions / Earth compilations released by his Good Looking Records. While the compilations are great, I prefer his only full solo album, "Journey Inwards", which is quite an interesting melange of downtempo drum 'n bass beats, lounge, soul, and jazz - and in a departure from many electronic oeuvres even features such live instrumentation as flute, cello, upright bass, and sax. But don't be fooled...when he DJs live, it's often very driving drum 'n bass tunes, and not terribly downtempo.
