Macha's first, self-titled album is a fantastic piece of work which came about (I believe) after various members of the band spent quite a bit of time wandering the Indonesian countryside making field recordings of local traditional musicians and collecting hammered dulcimers, zithers, various gongs, and things like "shawms", a "santoor", and a "guiro". I have no idea what those are, but they manage to fold them all into a bit of a rock format and create something wondrous unlike anything I have heard before or since. If you poke around hard enough, you can also find the CD of field recordings of Indonesian musicians which they have released separately.
