MachaMacha's first, self-titled album is a fantastic piece of work which came about (I believe) after various members of the band spent quite a bit of time wandering the Indonesian countryside making field recordings of local traditional musicians and collecting hammered dulcimers, zithers, various gongs, and things like "shawms", a "santoor", and a "guiro". I have no idea what those are, but they manage to fold them all into a bit of a rock format and create something wondrous unlike anything I have heard before or since. If you poke around hard enough, you can also find the CD of field recordings of Indonesian musicians which they have released separately. Links of note:
