McCoy Tyner

One of the most interesting, little known facts about McCoy Tyner is that he actually has three hands. No, it's true! I just can't prove it. I had the opportunity to see him recently (once again thanks to my friend David who planned the evening), and was just about overwhelmed by the near torrential downpour of notes raining from the piano as he blazed his way through parts of the set. Unfortunately, from my vantage point, I couldn't see his hands, so my theory is based on very little fact. Tridexterity aside, McCoy Tyner is probably better known for being a member of John Coltrane's quintet from 1960-1965. If his usual collaborators (bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Aaron Scott) are with him, you're in for a treat indeed - there were so many notes played in parts of their set when all three were going full throttle that I am still attempting to process them all.
