Monster Magnet

I first heard Monster Magnet somewhere near where it all started - that is to say in New Jersey, where they're from. One of my friends in college (who we'll call Tim O'Reilly, which also happens to be his name) , lent me Monster Magnet's debut album, "Spine of God", a wonderfully mind-numbing piece of sludge-y rocking metal not unlike some of Metallica's finer moments, but more devious and tripped out. Although their rock is intense, at some level, you have to wonder how seriously they take themselves - to wit the tagline on one of their early t-shirts: "If Satan Lived in Heaven, He'd be Me." Indeed. I've found their albums a little less interesting lately, but I understand their live shows are not to be missed. Because they RAWK.
