Brendan Perry

Dead Can Dance (of which Mr. Perry was 1/2 of the lead vocalists) was always kind of a strange phenomenon - appealing both to pallid black-wearing Goth types and snooty wireframe glasses wearing ethnomusicologists. And then there were the rest of us who just got ensnared by the awesome power of their percussion, their unusual instrumentation (from hammered dulcimer to uillean pipes to bouzouki), and Lisa Gerrard's otherworldy voice. As a side note, I normally think the word 'otherworldly' is a huge cop out, but not if the voice in question could actually be from another world - at least that's the only explanation I've been able to come up with why no one else has been able to duplicate the depth of her passionate expression. All the more amazing, considering that many of her lyrics consist of words that she makes up. But back to Mr. Perry, who I unfortunately think of as 'that guy who sings with Lisa Gerrard' - this is his first tour following the break up of Dead Can Dance, and I have to say I have no idea what he's been up to since.
