Solex

Solex is pretty much entirely comprised of Elisabeth Esselink who is in fact Dutch, and who has - coincidentally - a number of Dutch friends who like to help her make records (names like Lagendijk, de Groot, and Hagenaars are kind of givaways). Apparently, Elisabeth has quite an affinity for the word Solex since she has managed to work it into the title of all 12 songs on her first album which is all around an interesting electronic music affair that would probably work well as loungy background music somewhere if it weren't for the occasional aggressive rhythms. Kinda swank, though. I have found it difficult to make friends with her second album 'Pick Up', which smacks of somewhat over-wrought pastiche to me. Perhaps I'll warm up to it eventually... Or maybe I'll just skip to her latest 'Low Kick and Hard Bop'. I just don't know what to do, really.
