Consisting of DJs Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, Thievery Corporation is yet another group that nestles comfortably into the "downtempo electronic" genre of which I've become awfully enamored of late (see also Jazzanova, Rainer Truby, Kruder & Dorfmeister, ...). I've always been a fan of their DJ'ing (for example, their contribution to the Stud!o K7 DJ Kicks series is fantastic), but haven't really loved their own releases until I heard "The Mirror Conspiracy", which is a wonderful blend of lounge-y vibe with a plethora of cultural influences ranging from Brazil to corners of southeast Asia. Beyond the music, Garza and Hilton also own the Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington DC, which ranks very high on my list of favorite clubs - a mix of low key and high class - the kind of place that Los Angeles couldn't possibly do right, sadly.
